The movie is all cut together, sound work 90% completed; they just need a little help to get the rest of it finished, to get DVDs made, and to rent the theater for a January premiere at Celebration Cinema in Lansing-area, Michigan.

Just coming off the success of his first feature film, Fairview St. (11 film festivals, 5 awards so far), they're hoping to entertain you with a comedy that enlists the talents of much of the same folks from Fairview St.

Handlebar will be Michael's second feature film that he's directed. He co-wrote the movie with Shane Hagedorn, and it stars the two of them, alongside Grace Anne Rowan, Wallace Bridges, and Michael's Father, William C. McCallum. It's full of colorful characters from the Lansing area and shot completely in Lansing, as well.

A.E. Griffin was the Director of Photography for Handlebar, and Jon Worful's editing talents were used to help cut the film together. A small section of the film will be shown at the fundraiser, with the trailer and a sneak preview of a scene that Stober's own John Orta is in!

Filmmaker Michael McCallum, friend of the co-op, fresh back from his win of Best Film at the Muskegon Film Festival for Fairview St., is promoting the release of his next upcoming film, Handlebar, with a fundraiser. Please go to the fundraiser and support his filmmaking if you are in the area.

REBEL PICTURES FUNDRAISER IN MICHIGAN

Beth Sanford, owner of Rubie's Paradise Salon is throwing a fundraiser to support Rebel Pictures, a film company run by one of my best friends in Lansing, Michigan, Michael McCallum! A scene from his latest film, Fairview St., was shot in the salon.

Details of the event:
A hair/runway show promoting Rubie's Paradise Salon, The Headroom Salon, and Lockworx. Michael will also be there showing trailers for upcoming feature films from Rebel Pictures.
$2 at the door, and all the proceeds go to Rebel Pictures!

FAIRVIEW ST. AT THE MUSKEGON FILM FESTIVAL

A friend of the co-op, Michael McCallum, will have his first feature film, FAIRVIEW ST., in its first major film festival! The film will close the Muskegon Film Festival on May 31st, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. at the Harbor Theater (1937 Lakeshore Drive, Muskegon, MI 49441). Hope to see you all there!

FAIRVIEW ST. ENCORE PERFORMANCE IN MICHIGAN THEATERS

I am pleased to announce that Celebration Cinema of Lansing, Michigan, has invited Michael McCallum (film director and friend of the co-op) back for an encore screening of his locally-filmed/directed "FAIRVIEW ST." The movie will play four times starting on Sunday, February 15th, with a 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. show, then again on Monday, February 16th, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. You may purchase advance tickets at www.celebrationcinema.com by selecting the "coming attractions" menu and scrolling down to the "FAIRVIEW ST." poster icon. If you saw it during its first release, then you know how incredible this film is. The idea behind the public events calendar [see it] is that it is a directory of events for you, of you, by you. We want your artistic events, so let us know what is happening in your area, no matter how big or small.

Each listing on the calendar starts off with the closest largest city, if the event is not nationwide, so you can see at a glance if the event is applicable to you. The arrow in the upper right of the calendar screen gives you a dropdown key of calendar subjects by color, so you can narrow the calendar down to show only events that are important to you.

This calendar is a free, great, public place to list your artistic, social, political, or scientific event. Here's how:

Email us with:

• Closest big city to the event, if it is not national or Internet-based
• The who
• The what
• The where, as exact as possible
• The when, including time and time zone, and if the event repeats, etc.
• The why
• The how
• A copy of a flier or photo, if you have one, and photo credit name/link
• Any links/contact info where people can go to find more info
• Other necessary info: cost, 21+, sponsors, parking, etc.

Your event will show up as soon as we can upload it! We do reserve the right to refuse to list someone's event if it doesn't comply with our standards, ethics, or general overall good-for-the-peeps gut feeling, but if you're being cool, then we probably won't refuse it. Send in as many as you want (but please check to see if they are already listed, first! No repeats!)

MASSACRE MUSIC: INDIE BEATS LABEL FROM MICHIGAN

An old friend of mine from high school -- apparently now going by Tkali, so I won't disclose the origin of those initials from the days of yore -- has started up a record label for beats, hip-hop, rap, dj-style material called Massacre Music out of Michigan. The label is fledgling, but in the true spirit of networking, just check it out, listen to the samples, offer up advice, buy a CD or DVD, and support indie music.

MICHIGAN FILMMAKERS INCENTIVE PASSES INTO MOTION

Hey, Michigan Filmmakers!

Effective NOW, there is a new incentive for filming in Michigan. The Michigan Government Film Office will be handing out some sweet incentives to those who apply in their efforts to bring more filming, revenue, and art to Michigan. If you are a Michigan filmmaker or are planning to shoot a majority of your film in Michigan, check this incentive package out.

POSTS FOR SEATTLE, BOSTON, AND MICHIGAN

For those who don't know our history and are wondering why Seattle, Boston, and Michigan are getting all the posting love - and why they are the only ones with actual sidebar navigation links - here is the 411.

We started as little spuds in Michigan - Lansing and Detroit area - where we took over the scene with our company back in 1994. In 2004, we moved the whole bad ass machine to Seattle, where we made some of the most amazing connections on this lovely planet. This past September, 2008, we just moved the machine across the country again, this time to the Boston/Cambridge area, where we have set up shop, probably permanently, on the East Coast.

We have loved and supported many artistic movements throughout our time, but none moreso than our original and adopted hometowns. And we will continue to lend our voices and support to the art movements in those areas, seeing as a large majority of our own supporters come from those regions.

We do and will support people from everywhere, every walk of life, every art endeavor. But, going back to our roots and staying true to our past, Seattle, Boston, and Michigan will be the only places with their own sidebar navigation links on this blog.
