FAIRVIEW ST. ENCORE PERFORMANCE IN MICHIGAN THEATERS

I am pleased to announce that Celebration Cinema of Lansing, Michigan, has invited Michael McCallum (film director and friend of the co-op) back for an encore screening of his locally-filmed/directed "FAIRVIEW ST." The movie will play four times starting on Sunday, February 15th, with a 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. show, then again on Monday, February 16th, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. You may purchase advance tickets at www.celebrationcinema.com by selecting the "coming attractions" menu and scrolling down to the "FAIRVIEW ST." poster icon. If you saw it during its first release, then you know how incredible this film is. Don't miss out on the chance to see it again in Lansing on the big screen as it was meant to be seen, and bring a friend!

This film means a great deal to the co-op, as we are close friends with the director, who has put heart and soul into its production, and the bar has been set high for them to pack the theater. So please pass this message along to anyone you think might be interested, and spread the word about "FAIRVIEW ST." The trailer can be viewed at www.fairviewstreet.com. Support local art!

PUBLIC EVENTS CALENDAR AND ACTIVITIES LISTINGS

WE WANT YOUR EVENTS:

The idea behind the public events calendar [see it] is that it is a directory of events for you, of you, by you. We want your artistic events, so let us know what is happening in your area, no matter how big or small.

Each listing on the calendar starts off with the closest largest city, if the event is not nationwide, so you can see at a glance if the event is applicable to you. The arrow in the upper right of the calendar screen gives you a dropdown key of calendar subjects by color, so you can narrow the calendar down to show only events that are important to you.

This calendar is a free, great, public place to list your artistic, social, political, or scientific event. Here's how:

Email us with:

  • Closest big city to the event, if it is not national or Internet-based
  • The who
  • The what
  • The where, as exact as possible
  • The when, including time and time zone, and if the event repeats, etc.
  • The why
  • The how
  • A copy of a flier or photo, if you have one, and photo credit name/link
  • Any links/contact info where people can go to find more info
  • Other necessary info: cost, 21+, sponsors, parking, etc.

Your event will show up as soon as we can upload it! We do reserve the right to refuse to list someone's event if it doesn't comply with our standards, ethics, or general overall good-for-the-peeps gut feeling, but if you're being cool, then we probably won't refuse it. Send in as many as you want (but please check to see if they are already listed, first! No repeats!)

ARTOPIA BRINGS ALL-AGES STREET FAIR ART TO SEATTLE

Artopia is an all-day, all-ages, outdoor event in support of local artists that takes place in Seattle's Georgetown neighborhood. Last year's edition included such attractions as Hazard Factory's Power Tool Drag Racing, the Flight To Mars Birthday Cake, a child friendly carnival midway, live music, and some funky gallery shows.

Artopia '08 lands on Saturday, June 28th, 2008, and Ignition Northwest has decided to get behind it all the way in an effort to have a Burning Man-style art extravaganza that is all-ages. Thumbnail sketch: they're going to take over one "zone" of the fair with their own stage, theme camps, and art. And they're putting their money where their [collective] mouth is, with grants for artists and theme camps. Now, they need YOU.

The first step to getting involved is to join the conversation. Make sure you're on SEAVENT, the public event planning list for Seattle-area Burning Man and art-related activities.

To join, send mail to: seavent-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
For more questions, contact Ivan Cockrum via Ignition Northwest.
More information will follow when more details are known.

GEORGETOWN SECOND SATURDAY ART ATTACK

The Georgetown Merchants Association (Seattle) is pleased to launch the Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack (another good Georgetown site). The first of these lively monthly art walks takes place on Saturday, February 9, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.

More than two dozen galleries, studios, nightclubs, boutiques, and cafes will participate in the inaugural event. The work of countless local artists in a variety of media will be presented.

There will be fine art, crafts, theater, cartoons, film, food, drink, music, mirth, and mayhem in the heart of Seattle's coolest art community. Maps will be available locating all participants.

This will also be the first time a friend of the co-op's, Tabasco's, shop is open and fully functional. Come see him at his building, Equinox Studios, which has close to 30 artists in the building and will definitely be a place to stop and check out.

Equinox Studios is located at
6555 5th Ave S
Seattle, WA 98108

This art and community walk will take place on the second Saturday of every month, so get involved in it!

NEW ACTIVITIES FEATURE

In our efforts to keep this blog current, important, and a source of reliable and instant information, we are making a necessary and cool change to one of our sidebar navigation links. The link for "Activities," which used to list all activities - past, present, and future - that had been marked with that label, is now only going to feature fresh and current activities. Once an activity has happened, we will remove the label "Activities" from the post, and it will no longer show up under "Activities." This will enable everyone to check out what's happening right now, instead of being bogged down with events that have already happened and having to fork through the current and past ones. Each post will still come up under its other labels, so the post will definitely not disappear completely from navigation, but this change will enable the "Activities" link to become a more vital part of the underground events scene.
