SUPPORT IMPROV-EVERYWHERE

ImprovEverywhere is a very awesome real-world improv group that inundates public spaces with masses of people conducting improvisational acts. These improv acts are videotaped and documented and put on their website for the world to see. Now, with that said, if you haven't seen them, do so. Right now. Their real-world (read: not taking place in a theater or in a staged venue of any sort) improv is amazing.

This one happens to be my personal favorite. It is just beautiful.

WATCH THE TOTAL ECLIPSE - FEBRUARY 20

For 51 minutes on February 20th, 2008, provided there is a clear sky, you can catch a total eclipse of the moon. The eclipse starts at 7:01 p.m. and ends at 7:52 p.m. PST. More information on the eclipse can be found here.

NOW FOR THE FUN PART:
If you are in Seattle, there is even more fun to be had. A few friends and fellow artists of the co-op will be getting together at Cal Anderson Park in Seattle for a karaoke-style 51-minute sing-along version of the song Total Eclipse of the Heart.

If you want to bring along music to sing along to with your boombox, feel free. If you want to play an instrument, feel free. If you want to bring your whole band, go ahead. The head of this insaneness, Corprew, will have a megaphone so that people can take turns on the top of the hill. If you bring your own megaphone, don't be a dick. That is, of course, always a strict rule.

This fun event will start at 6:30 p.m. (and will also celebrate Corprew's birthday, which is the next day!). Dress however you like: I suggest warm, festive, and moisture-resistant. Come to sing! You may wish to bring coffee.

FOCUS ON AMERICA'S EDUCATION

To boost America’s economy, we must focus on strengthening K-12 education.

Why? Economists estimate that if America raises student skills closer to that of European nations, the U.S. economy would grow by an additional 5% over 30 years resulting in an extra $1.5 trillion in 2037 alone—more than triple current U.S. spending on K-12 public education.

Please visit this website: ED in '08.
Watch the video, and pass the word along to everyone you know.

UPDATE 2-10-08: If you need a visual to show you why education is so important, then please let me leave you with this picture, courtesy of The FAIL Blog, which I will endorse, and Who Wants to be a Millionaire, which I will not...

Yes, we first landed men on an elephant. Wow.

WEAPONS OF MASS REPRODUCTION

Weapons of Mass Reproduction is a cool project in Seattle, started by mover and shaker artist, designer, and filmmaker Carey Christie, that involves dressing up in pregnancy bellies and taking over bars, drinking, smoking, having a good time, and educating others on women's rights, human rights, sexuality, health care, or any other topic that is sparked by questioning onlookers. Find out more information here. If you are in Seattle, find out the next location and date, and get involved!

A bit of information about them:

This project is a performance art/social awareness-raising event that they plan to host once a month.

Most people, even passive-aggressive Seattle liberalistas, really freak out when they see a pregnant chick tugging on a rocks glass full of Makers Mark. WOMR puts that shock value to their advantage in the cause of pointing out the many funding cuts and other political blocks to education and health care resources for women and children in this country, especially in the cases of single mothers or girls from low-income areas. These issues belong to our society, not just to the 14-year-old in rural Wisconsin who gets knocked up by her first boyfriend because her school teaches an abstinence-only form of sex education.

What WOMR does: Get dressed up fake preggers and drink [if you drink] and smoke [if you smoke] publicly, behaving in a rowdy manner that calls attention. Then when people give them the stink eye, WOMR give the onlookers buttons that lead them to the WOMR website with current links to education and resources regarding reproductive rights and women and children's health care issues in the US. The idea of this event is not that WOMR runs around and lectures people on the issues. The political agenda is to help people recognize that they DO give a shit about this issue and then point them toward a resource where they can learn more and hopefully get involved in the fight to keep women and children healthy and loved in this country.

WASHINGTON: YOUR VOTE DOESN'T COUNT UNLESS YOU CAUCUS!

IF YOU LIVE IN WASHINGTON STATE, LISTEN UP and get informed:

If you planned on not going to your Caucus but rather voting in the Primary instead, think again! Washington's Democratic Presidential Primary is 100% meaningless – it's an "advisory vote." Delegates at the National Convention will be decided solely by the results of the Caucus. Your vote for the presidential candidate will only count if you go to your Caucus this Saturday, February 9th, 2008, from 1-5 p.m.

If you're not registered to vote or you recently moved, you can register right at your caucus!

To find your caucus location go to:
http://www.wa-democrats.org/caucusfinder

Why is Washington State having Caucuses and a Primary? The Washington State Legislature was the body who voted to hold a primary. That means that the Washington State Democratic Party, which chooses how delegates are decided, had no participation in the decision to hold the Primary, which will cost $9 to $10 million. The Washington State Democratic Party decided to choose their delegates through the Caucuses, as it always has. As a result, your vote for a Democratic candidate in the State Primary will not count toward delegate selection.

Quick-n-dirty info about Washington's Caucus system.

Read our previous blog post about some cheating going on at prior Caucuses, so you can be informed.

Saturday, February 9th, is the date that Washington State voters select the delegates who will represent "we, the people" in choosing the Party's presidential nominee. If you would like to take part in the election of your favorite candidate, you MUST attend this election event.

If you are a Washington Democrat, this is a great site to have in your bookmarks for more information. You can also find out more information about Caucus locations at both of the major parties' Washington websites: Republican or Democrat.

GEORGETOWN SECOND SATURDAY ART ATTACK

The Georgetown Merchants Association (Seattle) is pleased to launch the Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack (another good Georgetown site). The first of these lively monthly art walks takes place on Saturday, February 9, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.

More than two dozen galleries, studios, nightclubs, boutiques, and cafes will participate in the inaugural event. The work of countless local artists in a variety of media will be presented.

There will be fine art, crafts, theater, cartoons, film, food, drink, music, mirth, and mayhem in the heart of Seattle's coolest art community. Maps will be available locating all participants.

This will also be the first time a friend of the co-op's, Tabasco's, shop is open and fully functional. Come see him at his building, Equinox Studios, which has close to 30 artists in the building and will definitely be a place to stop and check out.

Equinox Studios is located at
6555 5th Ave S
Seattle, WA 98108

This art and community walk will take place on the second Saturday of every month, so get involved in it!
